We've built two demo shops where you can:
Shopify is very flexible, it can help you get started online, expand your current shop or scale up and support you as your business does more online. Our demos aim to give you a flavour of the possibilities and show you how we can help.
Have a read through the features on the demos and try the links to see them in action in our demo shops.
Shopify allows up to 3 different product options, for example size, colour and style. Our shop demos allow you to see some of the standard ways Shopify displays products and more advanced display options we have developed for our clients. Follow the links below to try the features.
Show different sizes with availability
Customers can select a product size and see if it's in stock
Show all styles in a selected colour
Customers can change the colour to see all available styles in that colour
Show all colours in a selected style
Customers can change the style to see all available colours for that style
Within Shopify, sale prices can be applied to a single product, or just for certain options within the product, for example to the small and/or medium sizes. There are no restrictions on how many sale prices can be applied.
Show different sale prices depending on size
Customers can see the discount applied to specific size
Shopify makes setting up discounts very straight forward. It can be done for a single product, a group of products, or at order level.
Discounts can be set up as
Buy X get Y free
Add 2 women's hoodies that are on sale to your cart and add a t-shirt for free
X% discount when order amount is over £Y
When your order amount is over £100 a 10% discount is applied at checkout
Our demos cover two different ways to provide local delivery and store pickup functionality
Demo of Shopify's own Store Pickup + local Delivery functionality
Options to choose a store pickup or local delivery are given on the checkout page
Store pickup is set for our location in Balmedie, and will be avilable to pickup from 24 hours after the order was placed
Local delivery is set for a 30 mile radius of Balmedie, so to test this out use an Aberdeen postcode, for example AB25 1EB and make sure your order is over £10
Details of the shopify app can be found here Shopify Local Delivery
Demo of Zapiet Store Pickup + Delivery App
Customers can check if their post code is eligable for deliveries or store pickup from any page on the site (Banner at to of the page)
Options to choose a store pickup or local delivery are given on the shopping cart page
Deliveries to Ellon (Example post code AB41 1AS) are set for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
Deliveries to Balmedie (Example post code AB23 8AB) are set for every day except Sunday
Customers from both areas can also select a store pickup between 9am and 4pm an hour after submitting the order
There are many settings you can pick with this app, for example, how much preperation time to allow (which can be varied for each day of the week), how far in the future customers are allowed to select their delivery and much more.
Adding customer reviews to your products can be done by adding a free app written by Shopify.
Customers are given the opportunity to leave reviews of your products which you can choose to approve before they are shown on your shop. You can also respond to reviews.

You or your customers can share pages from your shop online at the click of a button.
We can help you add Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and other share buttons to all of your pages.

The shopping cart, bag or basket can be found at the top right on all pages in the Shopify shop. This is becoming the standard place for this on most websites. As a customer shops the cart will show the number of products added. Along the top you will also find:
You can view all products in a category by selecting the product category, for example mens or womens in the clothes shop demo
Clicking on a product image or name you will take you to the product page. In the product page you can try selecting product options, for example size, weight, colour, style and the quantity.
When you are happy with your product selection add the product to the cart by clicking "Add to cart". If you want to add another product navigate to a product page and add to cart again, the number of products in the cart is shown on the top right of the page.
Now you have products in your shopping cart choose to "check out" from the cart page
The check out page has 3 elements:
No payment will be taken by entering details into the demo payment system
Card number | Use the number: 4242424242424242 |
Name on card | Has to be at least 1 initial followed by space and a surname, e.g. "A Smith" |
Expiration date | Needs to be in the future, e.g. / |
Security Code | Any 3 numbers |
Why use Shopify for your online shop
Find out why we chose to work with Shopify and the benefits it can bring to your business
During lockdown we decided to spend time researching different ways we could build online shops for small businesses. We felt that there would be an increased demand for businesses to go online and that Doric Design was in a good position to help our fellow business owners get the most out of their online shops, whether it was venturing online for the first time or looking to expand their online work.
We found that today there are many different offerings out there, all with their own pros and cons.
We wanted to find a system that met these criteria
We started by finding out what offerings might fit our criteria, which included
Magento Open Source | IONOS 1&1 | one.com | Opencart |
Shopify | WIX | WooCommerce | Big Commerce |
Squarespace | Etsy | Shop Blocks | 3dcart |
Volusion | EKM | Zen Cart | Shop Wired |
EBay | Amazon |
We then turned to review sites to help us whittle down the list, which included
Mobile Transaction | 7 best ecommerce platforms for small businesses in the UK |
Website Builder Expert | 10 Best Ecommerce Website Builders For Small Business |
Merchant Machine | 21 Top Ecommerce Platforms For UK Businesses: 2020 Comparison |
Startups | The 6 best ecommerce platforms for small businesses in 2020 |
We chose 5 that we felt Doric Design could bring value to as web design company
For each of these we built and tested demo shops
We looked through documentation and customer forums, trying out customisation options, creating orders, paying for orders, shipping orders and looking at the sales statistics
For us Shopify had the best balance of functionality, ease of use, personalisation, stability, security and scalability with great documentation and support at a fair price. And while they are based in Canada, they have a large customer base in the UK.
In their system there is a clear separation between system's core functionality and 3rd party apps. This means that the integrity of the shop is strong, it can function away for the extra apps. The app developers themselves are also well supported by Shopify and apps vetted by Shopify before being offered to customers building shops, making the job of supporting customers faster and easier for Shopify.
We found the documentation thorough with online training courses and guides for both customers and partners, such as ourselves. The community forums are busy and friendly making them an excellent place to find and offer support.
As a Shopify partner there is a clear pathway for us to use when working with you from initial discussion, gathering your shop's requirements, building and handing over your shop to you. Based on our experience with lots of online projects we know that many clients want us to stay involved to help, especially as they get used to a new way of working online. Shopify has thought about this and allows us to stay involved if you want us to.
